![]() It is very hard on the system!Īs to which way around - I don't believe there is a protocol. Xofigo and chemo concurrently were tested in a clinical trial at UCSF and elsewhere last year. Also review with your doc again and coordinate an appeal - is he/she a genitourinary med onc? I suggest you call the Xofigo patient helpline and discuss. they are very active as you probably have noted from all their ads on this site. I recommend you appeal, maybe with the direct help of Bristol Meyers. I too have never heard that bone pain is a requirement, and certainly Xofigo can precede chemo. I am feeling fine even if I find that I have a tendency to be somewhat lazy. I am looking forward to seeing some bone scans at the end of my Radium treatment. The PSA is not influenced by Radium 223 but the alkaline phosphatase keeps going down. The main reason for the choice of Radium was its direct effect on the metastases and not the pain management. Right from day one they were all surprised to my lack of symptoms when taking account of the metastases load that I was carrying. This seemed more desirable to Taxotere which attacks all the fast growing cells including the healthy ones. Radium 223 focusses its action exclusively on the bones with active metastases. Her preferred choice was Chemo with Taxotere.įrom what I read from my reports and info about the drugs I preferred radium 223. I told her that not really I had at least three options if we included not doing anything. My Kelowna oncologist closer to home told me that I had only two options left. After the radiation I quickly failed Xtandi. They don't realize yet the full the benefits of such treatments. Also they were my femur and right hip crucial for my mobility. He wanted to have two of my metastases irradiated for protective measure because they were growing faster than the rest. When I failed Zytiga I did have some occasional bone pain but one of my oncologist told me not to play down my bone pain because often some useful treatments are still only used when there is bone pain. I am on Xofigo, I had three injections so far.
